INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS' COLLECTORS

1985 was a highly productive period for KISS, especially for Gene Simmons. These session recordings prove it, featuring a wide selection of high-quality unreleased material, some of which was later used for the Asylum album.

Many songs, however, remained in the archives and are now emerging nearly forty years later.

* Gene wrote it in 1975, took it out of the archives for Rock And Roll Over, his solo album and propably on other occassions aswell but the KISS road for this song ends here with the Asylum sessions. Gene later offered it to Black and Blue, Silent Rage and Sleeze Beez.

* another quality song in raw demo form, that did not make the albjm.

Recorded already in the 70’s and here in its 1985 incarnation.

* The title returned in 2009 on Sonic Boom, the songs is unique though and a typical Gene Simmons mid 80’s composition.

The master cassette of Arthur Stead, (keyboard player in the original Comet line up in 1984-1985) of the original first Frehley's Comet album that was never released.

Shades recently released the Bronze and Megaforce demos by Ace Frehley's Frehley’s Comet. Now it is time for the release of the original, unreleased first Frehley’s Comet album.

This CD contains fully mixed studio recordings, most of which did not appear on the album that was eventually released in 1987. All tracks are presented in outstanding sound quality, sourced from the recently leaked master cassette belonging to keyboard player Arthur Stead.

The Lost Sessions is a collection of outtakes from the first three decades of KISStory. It features high-quality recordings that cannot be found on any other release.

Listening to this collection feels like hearing a completely new KISS album. Highlights include the original 1975 version of Mr. Make Believe; the fascinating Dreamer, which is believed to be a leftover from the Destroyer sessions; Fourever, a tribute to the band itself that was originally planned, together with Ace Frehley’s Queen for a Day, for inclusion on Double Platinum; the Dynasty-era version of Only You, which later appeared on Music from "The Elder"; Mirage, written for Smashes, Thrashes & Hits; and the excellent Roar of the Greasepaint from 1997, which later evolved into Journey of 1,000 Years on Psycho Circus.

This release completes the series of studio session CDs on the Zodiac label and brings together virtually all significant unreleased KISS studio recordings in one collection.

This song turned into You Wanted The Best 20 years later.

08. Rockin' In the USA (1977)
A very early version of the song opening Side 4 of AliveII.

09. Fourever (1978)
Gene wanted to write another rallying song like Rock and Roll All Nite that proved the strong bond and unity between the 4 members. It was supposed to be one of the two new tracks on Double Platinum.

10. Only You (1979)
We all know the version on The Elder but this is something else.

11. Sweet Temptation (1979)
A great post Dynasty pre Unmasked song.

12. You're All That I Want (1980)
An early and very different version to the album track from Unmasked.

13. You're My Reason For Livin' (1980)
A song that popped up a few more times in Kisstory but this is the earliest know Unmasked era track.
14. Am I Losing My Mind (1980)
The final one from the Unmasked sessions, a great composition.

15. Mirage (1988)
We skip a few years, 8 to be precise , and Mirage is one of the new songs initially proposed for Smashes, Thrashes and Hits

16. In Your Face (1997 Original)
We skip another 10 years to the (pre-) Psycho Circus sessions. This is Gene Simmons original demo with himself on vocals.

17. I Wanna Rule The World (1998)
A Carnival of Souls leftover that was again considered for PC.

For a long time, 1966 was cited as the recording year, but research indicates the session most likely took place closer to 1970.

KISS - THE COMPLETE EARLY RECORDING SESSIONS 1973-1974 CD [ZODIAC 873]

Unfortunately, very little studio material from the very early years of KISS is available today. However, the recordings that do exist are extremely interesting.

This CD begins with the legendary demo recording that KISS made with Eddie Kramer at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.

This version is an upgraded edition of the previously leaked recording. It was reportedly planned for release in 2023 as part of an official KISS Super Deluxe Edition. However, after the acquisition of KISS music rights by Pophouse, the project was postponed indefinitely.

That box set was also expected to include the complete Bell Sound Studio sessions. KISS entered Bell Sound Studios on November 10, 1973, to record their debut album. These sessions are exceptional and unique because they contain different interpretations of songs such as Firehouse and 100,000 Years. Fans can only hope that the complete sessions will one day finally be released.

Finally, this collection includes a demo version of Going Blind from the Hotter Than Hell album, here still titled Little Lady.

This is the complete collection of early KISS studio recordings in the highest quality available.

INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS' COLLECTORS

1989! The final year of the 1980s, when Kiss returned to its roots with an old-school, blue-collar rock album recorded in a simple demo studio: Hot in the Shade.

The recordings for this album actually started much earlier, as often happened with Kiss. In late 1988 and early 1989, Gene Simmons had already begun working on demos with Tommy Thayer and the other members of Black 'n Blue, including the first track on this CD, the excellent Chrome Heart. He also worked with the members of Silent Rage, a band Gene started supporting in late 1988.

This was a highly creative period for Gene, something clearly reflected both on the album and in these outstanding sessions featuring material that, for reasons difficult to understand, never made it onto the final release. Highlights include strong songs such as Suspicious, The Hunger, Street Legal, and Something Wicked This Way Comes. The demo versions of the hit single Hide Your Heart are also included.

The absolute highlight of this CD is two deeply personal demos by the much-loved drummer Eric Carr, who sadly passed away far too young.

1. Chrome Heart

A song that was planned for the album.

This Simmons / Howard Rice version was first recorded as a demo in 1983. By accident, it ended up on a demo cassette given to the British band HEAVY PETTIN while Gene Simmons was filming Runaway.

According to Gene Simmons, this version was recorded after the Crazy Nights album and was considered for the next album, Hot In The Shade (HITS).

The 1988 demo is also credited to Bruce Kulick. It reused the title and included a guitar riff Bruce brought to Gene.

Two slightly different versions of the album’s lead single.

The song was first written in 1987 for Who Dares Wins which was the original album title for the Crazy Nights album. It was tested in a live environment during Paul Stanley’s solo tour in early 1989 and then re-recorded for HITS.

Gene Simmons offered many songs for the album, including this one.

It was not included on the album, but a different version later appeared on Monster under the title Shout Mercy.

6. Ain’t That Peculiar
7. Little Caesar

Ain’t That Peculiar was the original song written by Eric Carr for the album.

Gene Simmons did not like the song’s flow, so he changed the title to Little Caesar.

Ain’t That Peculiar is an early version of Little Caesar and is based on Marvin Gaye’s song of the same name. This demo is a heavy metal-style cover of the Marvin Gaye recording.

It was recorded in spring 1989 at Fortress Studios in Hollywood, California.

The recording was engineered by Pat Regan.

The alternative version of Little Caesar has completely different lyrics and vocal melodies. Eric Carr sings lead vocals and plays bass, while Bruce Kulick adds strong rock guitar riffs.

Another strong Gene Simmons song that did not make the album.

This version is different from the one later recorded during the Psycho Circus sessions.

9. The Hunger

This song was recorded on New Year’s Eve 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick worked on the recording, and it may have been considered for the Crazy Nights album.

Gene often reused older demos when preparing songs for new albums, so the track returned again in 1989.

This demo is the original recording. Since Hot In The Shade used many updated demo songs, it is possible that this version was also planned for the album.

10. The Street Giveth And The Street Taketh Away

Like Betrayed, this is a rough but mostly complete demo version of the final album track.

11. Something Wicked This Way Comes
12. Something Wicked This Way Comes (Final Version)

This excellent song was seriously considered for the Hot In The Shade album.

It was removed at the last minute, but still appeared in promotional track lists.

The title comes from Ray Bradbury’s Gothic novel Something Wicked This Way Comes, about a dark carnival led by the mysterious Mr. Dark.

The song was recorded with Bruce Kulick on lead guitar.

The final version removed much of the repeated parts found in the demo.

It was recorded in 1988 at Artisan Sound Recorders Studio C with engineer Mikey Davis.

13. Street Legal

Another strong candidate for the Hot In The Shade album.

The song was later recorded by Doro, but again removed from the final tracklisting, for Doro’s solo album in 1990.

14. Promise The Moon

This demo is based on a 1970s song called Sentimental Fool, written by Gene Simmons and Bob Kulick.

Later, while Gene was producing BLACK ’N BLUE, he recorded a new demo using members of the band.

Gene Simmons sings lead vocals on this version.

15. (She’s Got Me) Paralyzed

Recorded at Pat Regan’s Fortress Studios in Los Angeles.

The song almost appeared on the Hot In The Shade album.

This demo features:

You can hear both Gene Simmons and Bob Ezrin singing backing vocals.

Later, more work was done on the song for the 1992 album Revenge.

Recorded in late 1987 and later reused for the Hot In The Shade album.

This is the 1989 demo version with Gene Simmons on lead vocals.

The song also appeared on BLACK ’N BLUE’s 1988 album In Heat.

You can clearly hear Jaime St. James singing backing vocals. This suggests it may be the original BLACK ’N BLUE demo with Gene’s lead vocal added later.

Also known as All You Want Is A Piece Of My Heart.

This demo features Gene Simmons on vocals and was written together with Adam Mitchell.
