“The Best of the Beatles,” a best-of album created exclusively for Japan to coincide with the Beatles’ first concert tour in Japan in 1966.
Although 16 tracks were selected specifically for the Japanese market and test pressings were even produced, the release was canceled due to a lack of permission from the UK, making this best-of album known among Beatles scholars as a“phantom record.”

Now, it has been faithfully reproduced as a limited-edition CD with a paper sleeve and obi strip. All tracks are sourced from the original analog recordings from the 1960s.

“I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “She Loves You,” “Love Me Do,” and “P.S. I Love You” are presented in pseudo-stereo, while the remaining tracks are
direct transfers from analog sources, faithfully reproducing the original sound of the era—distinct from digital remasters.

The cover was originally intended to feature a chick design by the child prodigy artist Claude Okamoto, but this never materialized due to the
album’s cancellation and thus no original copies exist. This release features a reproduction that follows the style of the numerous
Odeon best-of albums from that era, and the obi strip is also a faithful recreation of the original design. Instead, the inner sleeve fully reproduces both sides of the test press label design, allowing you to see the true form of this “phantom record,” right down to the track list and record number.

It is said that only a handful of test pressings still exist, making this a highly sought-after title that faithfully reproduces *The Best of The Beatles*—
a treasure considered one of the world’s top-tier, ultra-rare items, even more difficult to obtain than “Butcher Covers” or gold Parlophone pressings!
