THE BEATLES - THE LOST TOP OF THE POPS FILMS DVD [MISTERCLAUDEL]

This title compiles previously unreleased footage, including what is likely the biggest discovery of never-before-seen footage in recent years, specifically from their 1964 appearance on Top of the Pops. This entire work is comprised of previously unreleased Beatles footage and upgraded footage that was previously privately owned.

TOP OF THE POPS 1964

The main focus is on their appearances on the British music program Top of the Pops, including performances from 1964, 1965, 1966, and 1967. Particularly surprising are the four takes of "Can't Buy Me Love" and two takes of "You Can't Do That" from their 1964 appearance, which were previously thought to have no surviving film. The first take of "Can't Buy Me Love" is believed to be a rehearsal, the second interrupted by a lighting error, the third interrupted by a camera switching error, and the fourth being the successful take. It's astonishing that this previously unreleased footage, newly remastered from the unearthed 35mm negative film, can be viewed in such high quality. Furthermore, not only rehearsals but also three versions of the actual broadcast are included.

TOP OF THE POPS 1965 & 1966 & 1967
The 1965 performance of "Ticket to Ride" features the band wearing the same military suits as at Shea Stadium. The 1966 performance is "Paperback Writer." While the recordings are unfortunately short, the beautiful photographs against the backdrop of the circular illuminated stage are famous, and here, those photographs come to life in moving images—a truly moving experience. The 1967 performance wasn't a studio recording; instead, pre-recorded footage of "All You Need Is Love" (OUR WORLD) was broadcast. This release includes three versions.

READY STEADY GO! 1963
This features vivid color footage, shot on color film—rare at the time—rarely used for colorization later. Not only are the performance scenes included, but also footage of the band entering the studio, smoking during rehearsals, and chatting with staff, all in vivid color.

ROYAL VARIETY PERFORMANCE 1963
This recording features the Royal Variety Performance, famous for the "jewelry-clad" comment, taken from the ATV master. While it includes timecodes, the picture quality is surprisingly sharp.

AROUND THE BEATLES 1964
The broadcast was in black and white, but this recording captures the rehearsal in vivid color. The main performance is also in color, but this isn't from the actual broadcast camera; it's footage of the recording process shot on a separate 8mm film.

SCENE AT 6:30 1964
This is black and white footage, showing the Beatles arriving at the venue, the waiting fans, and rehearsal footage of "I'd Like to Be Into You." While this rehearsal footage has been seen before, this version boasts significantly improved picture quality and a longer runtime. It also includes interesting off-stage shots during breaks in rehearsals, the band members fooling around backstage, and the band leaving the venue, seen off by fans.

READY STEADY GO! 1964

This is another rare example of color footage. In the rehearsal footage, the members are all dressed casually and in different outfits. The main feature, however, is not filmed with the actual broadcast cameras, but rather on 8mm film, privately shot during the performance. Seeing the familiar stage, background, and other elements in color is incredibly refreshing. Akira Kurosawa's "No Regrets for Our Youth" is a black-and-white film, but a US military personnel member who happened to be on location filmed the shooting process in color. As a result, we have a valuable color record of "No Regrets for Our Youth," and "Ready Steady Go!" was filmed under similar circumstances.

SHINDIG! 1964

This title primarily features Top of the Pops and includes their television appearances in the UK, but at the end, it includes bonus footage of their appearance on the American program "Sindig!". The rehearsal footage, showing Ringo missing the intro to "Boys" and having to start over, is so typical of a rehearsal.

features rehearsal footage from the 1964 Top of the Pops, including "Can't Buy Me Love" and "You Can't Do That," likely the biggest discovery of the year, as well as previously unreleased footage from the show across various eras. In addition, it includes outtakes from other British television appearances around the same time, rare footage, rehearsal footage, and upgraded footage—unique footage not available on other labels—all presented in unprecedented quality.
